A memorable night in Susiya
Last Friday we spent our last and final night in Susiya in the South Hebron Hills. I think that for all of us Susiya has been a really valuable, mind opening and memorable experience during our stay in Hebron.
We knew that it was going to be a very touching last night in the beautiful landscape, under hundreds of stars shining in the sky. We put our mattresses outside and planned to watch a movie accompanied by two friends from the village. The laptop couldn't play the movie so we ended up singing which was great fun.
We watched the beautiful sky and saw at least ten shooting stars. What simple things you need to make an experience so memorable and so powerful! This was a night I will never forget. That night I also forgot that we are in a country which is under occupation. Sometimes you just really need to escape from the brutal reality.
I saw how the guys from the village appreciated the presence of our male teammates and their energy and willingness to play football. They will definitely miss the football games with these two sporty EAs. In the morning it was really hard to say goodbye. It was extremely touching to see that they will all miss us in the village and we will miss them.
You should never tell your wishes, but when I saw a shooting star I wished that there would one day be a lasting peace in this country. We will see how it works out.
