A Palestinian advocacy group has called for a day of global action to end the occupation, marking the UN's International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People on Sunday November 29.

The UN General Assembly called for an International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People in 1977 to mark 30 years since the UN partition plan which in 1947 divided mandate Palestine into two states.

The Joint Advocacy Initiative, a coalition between local branches of the YMCA and YWCA, has called for "stopping the policy of double standard when dealing with the Israeli military occupation of the Palestinian territories."

JAI urged citizens worldwide to advocate for peace, justice and the restoration of the rights of the Palestinians as stipulated by international law.

The UN Palestinian Rights Committee said it would hold a special meeting the following day.

The JAI statement can be read here.
