On the 15th May, EAs participated in a silent commemoration of the 1948 "Nakba" (catastrophe) in which over 700,000 Palestinians were exiled and their homes and properties turned over to the immigrants of the newly established State of Israel. Protest rallies were held across the West Bank and Gaza, and demonstrators wearing black released 21,915 black balloons - one for each day since Israel's creation 60 years ago. Messages and letters from Palestinian children expressing their thoughts on the Nakba and their future were tied to the balloons as poignant reminders of the basic human rights that are being violated on a daily basis.
